PUBLIC DOMAIN GROUP

PUBLIC DOMAIN GROUP

IMMEDIATE

The work must speak to the lives and experiences of a contemporary era. This project requires a pairing of a theatrical dramaturgy and investment into the communities of today.

SUSTAINED ACCESSIBILITY

All of our pieces will be made through recycling work from The Public Domain as well as contributions from the collective. As a rule, all creative materials will fall back into The Public Domain and be readily available for reproduction/adaptation.

Performances will aim to take place in unconventional theatrical spaces with a ticket pricing model that insures both our ability to produce work and for said work to be accessible to all audiences.

COMMUNITY BASED

The work will strive to meet the challenges of the modern era’s communities. Whether that involves a specific scene or a broader demographic. All to often modern theater is all to interested with itself than the communities it claims to represent. The Public Domain Group must consistently interrogate whether a piece is effectively engaging with a community or only in conversation with itself.

BOUNDARY PUSHING

The work must challenge cliche, troupe, tradition, and formality. This is a theater with teeth and claws.

It’s time our generation creates a theater of our own, that works to incite rather than placate. The Public Domain Group is the anti AI war machine, existing outside the bounds of commercial theater to weaponize theater as the effective social tool it has always been.

In the last century, theater has been seismically shifted from its former position as THE popular medium of the storyteller. Public Domain Group aims to collage the expansive catalog from theatrical poets of yesteryear in a mission to create an immediate, accessible, community based, boundary pushing theater for our modern era.
